The acidity of water and other liquids is measured by the amount of hydrogen content known as the pH scale. Any liquid having a pH of less than 7 is called acidic and those that have pH higher than 7 are called alkaline.
Acidic water has high levels of toxic content, including lead, which is not only carcinogenic but also causes problems in the cardiovascular systems. It has been found that acidic water not only causes neurological and reproductive diseases, but it is also a major reason of hypertension.
The reverse osmosis (RO) process throws 92-99% of beneficial calcium and magnesium content out of the water, making it more acidic (low pH) in nature. It has been demonstrated that consuming water of low pH effects on homeostasis mechanisms, affecting the blood pressure and increasing chances of heart diseases.
It has also been showed that low pH increases the occurrence of other toxic effects due to high ammonia levels in water. In a nutshell, the RO system that makes water more acidic causes many disorders, including heart failure, skin diseases and hypertension.
